Street Style 1 'around Harrods'

Today while we were waiting to enter to the Alexander McQueen exhibition we went to take a look at Harrods and the people inside and outside it. We were told to ask people dressed well, in our opinion, if we could take a picture of them. Since I’m very shy I was quite scared at the beginning to ask people but then at the end it was fine. All of the people that we asked were very kind. These are some of the stylish people around Harrods.

 

 
 

V&A breathtaking shoes

Today our class of Fashion & Media went to the Victoria and Albert Museum. We saw two exhibitions; one was “Shoes: Pleasure and Pain” and the second one was “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty.” The two exhibitions were awesome. They had clothes and shoes, which were breathtaking. I decided to describe the first exhibition that we saw.

The atmosphere in the “Shoes: Pleasure and Pain” display was very calm. There weren’t tons of people like in the McQueen one which was better because you could see better and not bump into people. There was some music in the background, which was soft and relaxing. The lights in the first floor weren’t so bright so it made the atmosphere even softer. On the second floor the lights were brighter as it was all-open. Inside the exhibition people weren’t allowed to take pictures but I could see that some of them were trying to take them. Come on, it was worth getting caught though. I decided to describe very detailed three shoes that were in the exhibition.

The first shoes that I chose were made by Prada for Spring/Summer 2012 collection. It was a pair of open heels with flames coming out of the back of the shoes. It looked like the flames were coming out of a space shuttle. They were colored darkish green but were also produced in red. I can image a very stylish woman wearing them in the busy streets of an important city who’s going to a normal event.

The second pair I chose was very strange in my opinion. They looked like they had a ballerina inside and outside there was another shoe. The ballerina inside looked very simple and was made with a cream color. Instead, the black structure outside looked rigid and the texture was complex. It had many lines, which were connected making different shapes. The front part of the shoe was connected to the back. I can’t really imagine normal people wearing this shoe; maybe some designer, editor or stylist.

The third pair of shoes was made with different patterns and colors. The shoes, a pair of boots with heels, were designed by Sophie Webster. The colors were black, yellow, white, and red. The part of the heel was made with little round balls, white and black. The top part of the shoe were you could tie them around your angle was made with a simple black string with three small balls at the end. The little balls were one red, one yellow and one white. The other parts of the shoe was made of different patterns made with the colors I listed before.

A quick look at Guy Bourdin

Guy Bourdin was born on December 2^nd 1928 in Paris and died at the age of 62, on March 1991 in Paris. Bourdin was first introduced to photography during his service in the Air Force. There he received his initial photographic training, working as an aerial photographer. When he came back to Paris from the Air Force he did a various of jobs to maintain himself. Meanwhile he continued to make paintings and exhibit them. In 1950 he met Man Ray and became his protégé. Three years later, he had his first photographic exhibition. He shot is first fashion photoshoot for Vogue Paris for the February 1955 issue. In 1985, Bourdin turned down the Grand Prix National de la Photographie, but his name is retained on the list of award winners. His photos are sensual, provocative and many times unrealistic. He always has bright colors inside his photos and mainly shows the lower part of the body. His photos are very intriguing. They make you think a lot about the situation that is shown and you can decide what could be happening.  

 I chose the first picture because I love the way the colors are put together. They look very nice with the women shown all in black. This picture could make you think about what the girl is doing. Is she falling? Is she searching for something? Basically what is she doing? The picture is very simple but very nice at the same time. I really love the fact that the photo doesn't focus only on the woman but it shows a lot of the background.

I chose the second picture because the simplicity used makes it amazing and because the main color is red, which I love. This picture was probably used to show make up. The nails are perfect, they look all the same. The color used for the nails and the lips is the same. 

I chose the third picture because it's super mysterious. You could think of so many things that could have happened. And I love that all the background is made with dark colors and the products are in bright colors.
